Halloween at TSUS

Halloween at TSUS

This Halloween, the corridors of TSUS were full of superheroes, storybook favourites, friendly witches, wizards and a few delightfully spooky ghouls. Our students arrived dressed as the characters they love most, and for one day the school became a living storybook.

Behind the costumes and the laughter was something we value deeply: a chance for every child to imagine, create and show the world a little more of who they are.

More than a costume: what children learn

Dressing up may look like pure fun, and it is. But for a young learner, stepping into a character is also rich, meaningful learning.

  • Imagination and creativity. Children think creatively and make their own decisions when they choose a character, plan a costume and bring it to life.
  • Confidence and self-expression. When a shy child walks in as a fearless hero, they often find a voice they didn’t know they had. A costume can be a safe way to try out being brave.
  • Language and storytelling. Children love explaining who they are and why. Describing a character’s story, powers or personality builds vocabulary and speaking skills.
  • Empathy and understanding. Role-playing helps children see the world through someone else’s eyes, and that skill is at the heart of kindness.
  • Facing fears in a fun way. Spooky costumes let children play with things that might otherwise feel scary. Turning fear into fun helps them understand and manage big feelings.
  • Belonging and community. Celebrating together, admiring each other’s costumes and sharing the excitement builds friendships across classes and age groups.

At TSUS, we believe learning happens everywhere, not only in the classroom. Days like this remind us that joy and curiosity are some of the most powerful teachers.

A big thank you to our parents for the time and creativity behind every costume, and to our teachers for making the day so special. Most of all, thank you to our students for reminding us how much fun learning can be when imagination leads the way.
